English Teacher – Secondary Alternative Provision

A secondary alternative provision in Southampton is seeking a dedicated and adaptable English Teacher to join its committed team. This role is ideal for a practitioner who is passionate about delivering high‑quality English teaching while supporting students' wider personal development and essential life skills.
Working with learners who may have experienced challenges in mainstream education, you will play a key role in helping students build confidence, communication skills, and practical literacy that supports them beyond the classroom. The successful candidate will bring creativity, resilience, and a nurturing approach to ensure every young person can access learning in a meaningful and engaging way.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver English lessons across KS3 and KS4, tailored to individual needs
Embed life‑skills learning into the curriculum, including functional literacy, communication, and real‑world application
Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and progress
Work collaboratively with a small, supportive team to create a safe and structured learning environment
Contribute to personalised learning plans and behaviour support strategies
Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
Strong subject knowledge in English
Experience working in alternative provision, SEN, or with vulnerable learners (desirable)
A patient, restorative, and relationship‑focused approach
Commitment to helping students develop both academically and personally
